Hard Rocking it up in South Lake Tahoe

I was in South Lake Tahoe to see a show at Harvey’s and needed a bite to eat but didn’t have the time to venture far from the casinos.  Since I was at the mercy of a tight schedule I chose to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe which is located inside of Harvey’s which is at 18 Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

If you’ve ever been to a Hard Rock you know there are pretty much decorated all the same; with music related memorabilia.  There are signed albums, costumes worn by famous singers, and guitars hanging all over the walls.  There are also flat screens playing music videos at this location.

Twisted Mac ‘n Cheese

There wasn’t any wait to get a table and our party of four was seated right away.  The waitress got our drink orders within a couple minutes and came back a few minutes later to get our orders.  I must say that The Hard Rock Cafe has a lot to choose from on their menu and I had a hard time deciding on what I wanted.  When I finally settled on a dish I got the Shang Hi which was pulled pork with Asian 5-spice BBQ sauce, Asian style pickled cucumbers, and sriracha mayo and French fries for $11.95.  I also saw the twisted mac and cheese dish on the menu but couldn’t see getting it as an entire entree so I got the side for $5.95.  The second dish ordered at my table was the South Carolina which was pulled pork, South Carolina style mustard BBQ sauce, crispy slaw, and crispy cayenne onions for $11.95.  The third meal was a blackened Mahi sandwich with a side salad for $14.50.  The final dish ordered was a 10 ounce hamburger and fries for $13.95.

The food arrived within a short period of time and I dug into mine straight away.  I tried the mac and cheese first which was fantastic; the red peppers in it gave the dish an excellent taste!  My sandwich was a good combination of sweet, sour, and spicy – it was a little on the hot side for me but I’m a bit of a weenie when it comes to the hot stuff.  The rest of my party enjoyed theirs as well.  The only drawback was that I’m not sure the food was really worth the expensive prices Hard Rock charges.  My meal was unique but the hamburger wasn’t anything special and certainly not worth the $13.95 price-tag.  The fish was also a disappointment and was fairly flavorless.

10 Ounce Hamburger

I probably won’t be back to the Hard Rock Cafe as my bill for a meal of four was close to $80.00 when all was said and done…. for that price I expect fancier food; casino… 1, Jessica… 0.

I’m still on the search for good casino food at a small(er) price, does any such thing exist??
